BIG BOXING
WAIRARAPA v. MANAWATU. A contest of special interest will take place at the Eketahuna Public Hall on Wednesday, 20th July, when twelve Wairarapa representative boxers will fight twelve representative Manawatu boxers for a provincial banner. Both sides are at present confident of victory. The Manawatu men consider they will “knock the tails off” the- Wairarapa, while the latter consider that they have a big surprise in store for’ Manawatu. Special arrangements are being made to ensure a splendid setting for this keen contest. There will be an orchestra in attendance and two surprise items which will appeal to the ladies as well ns gentlemen. The fight will be' under the auspices of the Wairarapa Boxing Association, the Eketahuna Boxing, Club and the Catholic Social Committee, Eketahuna. On Wednesday July 13th a •preliminary contest to sort out some of the Wairarapa and Bush boxers for the big event on the 20tli will take place. This will also be a very •willing encounter, as the, boys will bp fighting for rep. honours. Manawatu will call on. its clubs at Palmerston North (3), Rongotea and Feild.ing, etc. Wairarapa will select from Pahiatua down through Eketahuna and Masterton to Featherston. The secretary is Mr C. H. Parsons, Eketahuna, Names of contestants on. both sides will appear later. THE PA.HIATUA TOURNAMENT. Owing to the Manawatu-Wairarapa boxing banner championships being hold at Eketahuna, on the 13th July next, the date originally intended for the big local amateur boxing tournament, and to he concluded on the 20th July, the local club has decided to change the date of its tournament to Wednesday, July 27th.
