BRITISH PEOPLE

ONE OF A GREAT UNIT. (Received 8.40 a.in.United Press Assn.—By Electric T elegraph—Oopyri gh t. SYDNEY, This Day. “It has always been a mystery to m e why there is so much difficulty in getting British people to think of themselves as one of a great unit,” observed Mr Brr,ct\ assistant Federal Minister, in a speech before the Royal Empire Society, Sidney, on the eve of his departure for Ottawa. He added that* every other nation had an advantage over the British Empire in this respect. Unless we achieve economic unity, we shall face world trade isolation. He mentioned that the United States was an economic unit. Europe, by reason of American, competition, was coming closer towards economic unity with the removal of customs barriers between its nations, and unless the British Empire was welded into a third economic unit its members ultimately would link, up either with an European or American unit.
