PAHIATUA A. AND P. SHOW
OLD DATES TO STAND. The following remit moved by they Pahiatua A. and P. Association at ilie annual conference of North Island A and I’. Associations, held an Palmerston North on Thursday last, was carried unanimously: “That unless special instructions to the contrary by donors, all prize cups and trophies offered for competition more than once shall he retained in the care and keeping oi the Association ■offering them until they are won outright.” The remit evoked a fair amount of favourable discussion. Alessrs AY. T. Penny and H. S- AI. Quigley commending the Pahiatua A. and P Association, for bringing the remit forward. as they considered the idea an excellent one and in the very best interest oi the ultimate winners of the trophies. After the ordinary business of the ■ (inference had been transacted, the newly-elected execuptive met representatives of the Dannevirke and Pahiatua A. and P. Associations to deal with a request from the former association for permission to revert to its old show days, Wednesday and Thursday, in lieu of its present dates Tuesday and Wednesday. The ease for Pahiatua was very aptly put by Air H. AleSlierry who dealt clearly and logically with every argument advanced by the Dannevirke representatives, the principal one being that the existing dates Tuesday and Wednesday were unsuitable to tbe Wairarapa exhibitors. Air Ab Sherry added that if the Dannevirke A. and P. Association insisted on the change of days Pahiatua would have no alternative but to abandon its animal gathering, as the only other day available would be Saturday, and it would not do to bold the show on that day for many reasons, the principal one being that it would interfere with the Saturday trade and bring the association into conflict with the business people. lt was impossible for the Pahiatua A. and P. Association to hold its show on any other date but the Friday following the Dannevirke fixture. The present circuit. Feilding, Woodville. Dannevirke. Pahiatua and Alasterton had lieen brought about through the persistent efforts of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association, extending over many years and had proved a great success. Air Ale Sherry’s remarks were endorsed by Alessrs H. Cotter. T. C. Cornford and the secretarv (Air J. A. Walsh). After a few remarks by tho chairman (All- 11. B. Stuckey), who evidently realised that Pahiatua had -ill the argument on its side it was agreed that the old dates stand for another year. At the annual conference of show secretaries a motion moved by ATr J. A. Walsh that in future the secretaries meeting be held on the morning of the general conference of A. and P. delegates, and not as at present- on the evening preceding it. The motion was carried unanimously, members realising that it would- save time ami expense, and welcoming the suggestion.
