REDUCTION IN ESTIMATES BARE ESSENTIALS ONLY Ihe extent to which stringent reductions have been effected’ in the current year’s expenditure on reading works, is reflected in the allocations made by the Alain Highways Board lor the Wellington Province. Preliminary allocations for the province have lieen set down for '93233 _at £93,000 as compar • with £l/3,000 for the previous year, a decrease of £BO.OOO. Owing to the lack of borrowed money it lias been decided that nothing will l>o provided this year for main highways construction from this source. Last financial year the Government was able to set aside £540,000 for main highways construction works. It has lieen explained that- tho highways are in good order and that work on them in the meantime must he confined to essential maintenance.
