Cheap Transport for PROSPERITY Railways Fighting The Slump BIG obstacle to New Zealand’s full recovery from the slump is the huge aggregate cost of land transport, of which motor-traffic accounts for three-fourths. The annual toll of land-transport has amounted to £36 out of every £IOO worth of production. New Zealand cannot afford this crushing burden. The railways can lighten the load.
