WOOL FOR KNITTING
DISPARITIES IN PRICES. Electric Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, June 20. Air Cookson, secretary of the New Zealand Alill Owners’ Association, replying to a Christchurch statement by the Alinister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. A. Hamilton) on the disparities between the retail prices of wool for knitting purposes and the prices i-eceived by the primary producers, stated that wool manufacturing was not as prosperous as was shown by the balancesheets. The majority of the companies in the Alill Owners’ Association were in communication with the department, which would doubtless make a public statement on completion of the investigation. An inquiry at the drapery stores revealed that the knitting wool quoted by the Alinister at 18s per lb was the highest grade English importation, while the popular high quality New Zealand wool was selling at 9s 9d per lb.
