Eight fire brigades were represented in, tlie competitions, these being Waipukurau, Paliiatua, Eketahuna, Masterton, Carterton, Greytown, Lower Hutt and Pet-one. Tlie Paliiatua team was not successful in winning any of the events.
Milk grading, and payment on grade is shortly to be introduced, so Mr W. A. lorns, chairman of the Dairy Control Board informed a meeting of the Greytown branch or the Farmers’ Union last week. Mr lorns said that while there was a certain amount of opposition to tlie proposal, he thought the dairy fanners should take the larger view, lor it they wished to place their produce they must strive after quality.
Blenheim is making an attempt upon the world sunflower record, says the Express. At the rear of Mr F. H. Southgate’s premises in High Street, there is at present growing a sunflower which is lift sin in height, with a stem of 24 inches in diameter. The largest flower is 1.5 inches across. Probably most people do not bother to measure their sunflowers, hut tlie specimen under review is so large as to challenge attention.
