ON THE SHOWGROUNDS. RECORD ENTRIES. At the Feilding Show yesterday the president 0.1 the Pahistiia A. and 1 P. Association (Mr H. Cotter) secured a remarkably fine number of entries, all of them from new exhibitors. ( )tg entries include juiiij.ing horsi-f* Jerseys and daily cattle and sheep. The well-known "Romney breeder (Mr E. E. Short) made an exceptionally fine entry and his sheep will be represented in every single class of this section. Over 70 entries were, leceived by Mr Cotter and 25 were also received conditionally. The president, secretary and « nnmbtfr of the executive will attend the \\ oodville Show to-morrow to receive final entries. At tlie present moment it certainly looks as i.f the Pfihiatua A. ami P, Association is going to establish a record for its show on the ]2fh inst, lnitli in the number of entries and the quality of the competing stock. Another well-known Jersey ex hibitor, A. Banks (Feilding), will also be a big exhibitor.

In the ca.se heard in Hie Palmerston North Supreme Court against Harold Swan, for whom Mr G. H. Smith appeared, counsel said lie tom justified in bringing forward certain facts to support a request for the granting of probation. Counsel said that accused was a lad of 18 whi.se parents had died when lie was very small. He had been an ii regular attender at school. hen he committed the offence accused had not realised what be was doing. He hod leceived no instruction in life, and had been frank in bis statement. Although subnormal mentally, lie was lione«t and a great helji in, supporting his grand-parents, with whom lie lived. His Honour said lie did not think tJie case was one probation, should be granted. Accused would be given a chance, to behave. He was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon at any time within the next two years.—Standard.
