Forbes, ill replying to Mr Vincent Ward, said •li legislation was passed postponing tlie licensing poll he could not see how it would be possible to make any exceptions in the direction of permitting polls on the question of local restoration'. He thought tlie majority of the people oi' Invercargill would agree that it would be unwise to depart from the principle involved and that it would be much better that any feeling that might arise oyer the local poll should not be permitted to clcud any issues at the forthcoming election.
