AUCKLAND FIRE.

CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, February 22. A fire broke out this afternoon in tbe Macky, Logan building in Lo rne Street, where considerable damage was caused. The outbreak was at one end of the building, where the following firms have premises: The Auckland Millinery Factory, Tattley and Co., New Zealand Knitted Wear, Ltd., Plummer Hat Co., Ltd., and Singer Sewing Machine Cb. When the brigade arrived the top floor was in flames and a cloud of white smoke was drifting over the immediate area. Firemen climbed on to the roof from the Wakefield Street frontage and gained an entry to the' building. Owing to the dense smoke inside there was some difficulty «in getting at the seat of the fire. The premises of the Auckland Millinery Factory were absolutely gutted before the brigade arrived, said the deputy-superintendent (Mr Avenell). A large stock of millinery was .destroyed and about 40 power sewing machines were badly damaged. The principal of the firm (Mr Zukerman) said that about 40 girls were employed on the premises. The premises of firms on the lower floors were slightly damaged by water.

BIG BLAZE IN PARK. AUCKLAND, February 22. Serious fires broke out this morning in four places in Trounson Park, twenty-five miles north of Dargaville. The flames were still raging late to-night despite the strenuous efforts of a hundred men to stem the outbreaks which, assisted by a strong wind, are threatening great damage. The caretaker says the circumstances suggest that four fires were deliberately lighted. Trenches were dug to check the flames but they leapt across the firebreaks. Trees are now being cut dowm to arrest the flames but the latest reports indicate that the fire is burning freely.
