The New Zealand Producers’ Cooperative Marketing Association has received cable advice from London that the Co-operative Wholesale Society of England has given £IOOO to the London fund for the earthquake disaster, FUND IN LONDON. LONDON, February 20. Ihe_ earthquake fund now totals £33,950. Barclay’s Bank gave £525, the Goldsmiths Company £SOO. and Merchant Taylors Company £262. PATIENTS SWINDLED. MAN’S MEAN ACT. WAIPUKURAU, February 21. A young man (his age is'22), a patient in the Waipukurau Public Hospital, was granted permission to go into the town. Before leaving the institution he went round the w:lr .d and collected 25s 9d from the patients from the earthquake area with which to make purchases for them. Neither the man, the purchases, nor the money returned to the institution. Many of the hospital patients have hardly any money. FELT AT ’WAIPUKURAU. Y> AIPUKURAU, February 21. At 2 o’clock this morning' a fairly severe earthquake occurred at Waipukurau. It was the third most violent shock since February 3. Two major ones disturbed local citizens, and two others less severe followed at intervals. No fresh, damage was done.
