The Pahiatua Herald. PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1931. WOMEN'S DIVISION OF THE FARMERS’ UNION.
Tile Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union may not be so much in the public eye as its excellent eister Society, the Women’s Institute, but nevertheless, it is doing splendid work, in giving relief to farmers’ wives in outback districts by the employment of housekeepers. In this respect the Division has earned the thanks of the settlers and their wives, especially those with large families, who find it difficult to obtain help for domestic duties. The Women’® Division has had many enquiries for housekeepers and ever;/ effort 1 is made in the selection of same to see that the most suitable persons are provided for applicants. 'Thor© is thus a certain official status attached to these appointments which is not forthcoming otherwise. The Division, by its good service, is proving a strong Support to the Farmers’ Union itself. Another useful feature of the Division’s work is the distribution of literature in the backblockis. In regard, to the earthquake disaster, the sarnie body has kindly offered to render practical aid in connection with the care of orphans. This in itself is a very commendable idea. The local branch of the Division is composed of energetic influential ladies who are popularly known throughout the district. The provincial executive meets at intervals in Palmerston North, and the reports of the proceedings disclose that the Division is carrying out in its own way a work that is doing much to brighten the lives of dwellers in localities far removed from the centres of population.
