CLEARING THE CAMPS.

APPEAL TO PAHIATUA. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. 1). Wilson), chairman of the local Citizens’ Earthquake Relief Committee, received the following wire yesterday afternoon from General Young, of Palmerston North:— “Please inform me urgently if you can take women and. children from earthquake area and maintain them till they can be repatriated Telegraph number and alien you can receive them to me. Palmerston N.” After full enquiry the Mayor telegraphed the following reply to General Young this morning:— “Over 150 refugees registered here besides number known unregistered. Telephone enquiries yesterday for further billeting met little response.”
