CAUSE OF MOST FIRES. Electric Telegraph—Press Association MASTERTON. September 24. “Thirty to forty per cent of the fires in this country are the result of gross carelessness,” declared Mr W. A. Parton at a meeting of the Masterton Fire Board to-day wben a recent fire in a garage caused by a lighted match being thrown down was under discussion. The chairman, Mr T. Jenkins, said that he had recently seen a garage attendant in Masterton strike a match while serving benzine from a pump. The board decided to leave the matter in the hands of the local committee. with power to report the matter to the police if considered necessary.
