FIREMEN PLAY FOOTBALL

A return football match was played on the local Recreation Ground yesterday ’afternoon between teams representing the Woodville Fire Brigade and the Pahiatua Fire Brigade, tlie latter team defeating the visitors by ten points to six. The going evidently proved rather strenuous, for players of botli teams alike showed signs of exhaustion and great physical exertion long before the conclnsion of the: game.

A. Burlace scored an unconverted try for Woodville and D. Hunt kicked a penalty goal. Pahiatua’s points were gained by T. Munus, who proved himself the Bennie Osier of the day by drop-kick-ing a good goal while R. Tautarangi and J. Mills both scored unconverted tries.

The Woodville team comprised Firemen J. Hutchinson, P. Peaden. E. West, T. West. M Gillespie, J. Charles, A. Burlace. 8. Smith. D. Hunt, E. McLean, T. Single, G. Young, I. McKinley, L. Hurley and V Lawrence. Mr M. Crane controlled tlm game.
