BIRD PROTECTION ACT
ANGLER'S PERTURBED. At a recent meeting of anglers in Woodville, representing Dannevirlie, Uahiatua, Feilding. Palmerston North and Woodville, some very disquieting remarks were made by .several visitors, at the proposed action of the Forestry Department to take out of the hands of the acclimatisation societies the conti'ol of fishing areas. Mr J. Hutton (Paliiatua) said the matter had been brought to a head recently. The Forestry Department was cut to get revenue, no matter how. and they were after .their license fees, to he used, as they say, to protect Crown property from the ravage of the deer. The deer had been introduced by the Government, and it was their look out. He was sure there was not one man who wished to see the native birds exterminated. They must fight" against Government , control, for with it, there will he an army of civil servants riding around in cars. They must have the co-operation of all clubs, and what they had they must stick to. (Applause). It was decided that Mr Hutton be asked to draft a letter to the Hon. E. A. Ransom, M.P.. urging that he take steos to see that the proposed controlling of the acclimatisation societies by the Government be stopped, and societies be allowed to carry on as they have been doing in the past.
