PLANE DISASTER
HOW IT OCCURRED. United Press Assn —Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright. HOBART, This Day. The ’plane piloted In’ Grant, was being used for the photographic bombardment of the Isle Caves by the warship, Australia and, isu'ddenly encountered a-bad bump in the, air. It went into a spin, which the pilot \va, unable to overcome. Grant and Elliott were thrown out before reaching the water. McGowan was trapped in the tail, where he ia,s taking, observations and carried under water. Death is believed to, have been instantaneous as the machine struck the sea with terrific force. Other ’planes were, immediately on the scene and picked up Grant, aind Elliott, wlm kept afloat despite their injuries. They were transferred to the destroyer Anzac, which set out immediately at full speed for Hobart. The machine was recovered. McGowan’s body was found, in the tail. Experts declare that the accident was not due to engine, failure.
