Alan Butcher, aged 20, was bathing with four others, at Maroubra this afternoon when he was attacked by a shark, which tore the flesh from hit. side and buttocks. He cried for help to lii.s companions and a timely wave brought him safely to store. He is suffering from shock and h-ss of blood. A serious example of the ferocious—ness of sharks was witnessed to-dav. Three monsters at Dee Why. six miles north of Sydney, came within ten feet of the beach and greedily snapped pieces of a, whale which was stranded on the foreshore and wan tethered, waiting transference to the Zoological Gardens. Resourceful fishermen caught one of the sharks, which was placed in a canvas tank and taken to the Zoo.
