ILAUNUI NOTES
Mr and Mrs Charles Liverton’s
homestead, “Pakowai,” Waihoki, was en fete on Saturday night last, the occasion being the coming-of-age celebrations of their daughter Esther Jean (Girlie). The decorations were elaborate and beautiful, streamers, balloons and coloured paper being effectively intermingled. There was a very large crowd of guests present and all entered into the spirit of tli e happy occasion. Dancing was soon commenced in the large dining room and it was remarked upon that many of the older people joining in, had known Miss
Liverton from babyhood. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs J. Ilobbe, Miss Graham Mrs M. Robbie and Mr Geoff Curtis. The novelty dances caused much interest. Supper was a time of enjoyment and occasion was taken to drink Miss Liverton’s health which was done with musical honours, all present tendering their congratulations, Mr J. Robbie in a felicitous speech proposing the toast and Mr Liverton replying on behalf of his daughter. Full justice having been don e to the elaborate collation, dancing was resumed and later all joined hands, and sang Auld Lang Syne, and three hearty cheers were given for the host and hostess.
This is only one of the many occasions which the district residents have enjoyed Mr and Mrs Liverton’s hospitality and they speak with gratitud e and appreciation of the “home that is ever open to all.”
