That therci is still a tightness of money is evidenced by the decreased totalisator returns at the various holiday rr.ee meetings. The drop in several instances has been very substantial. The “tote’’ is a good reflex of tit© spending power of the sporting public, as the punter is generally regarded as an optimist, and will often speculate with his last shilling. When times are very prosperous, money frequently flows on to the tote, and there is the inevitable slackening off when lean days are experienced. The fact remains that there is a certain amount of caution abroad, tin t money i.s tight, and will probably continue so- for a time, although the primary producers are enjoying good seasons. ADVERTISING N.Z. BUTTER AT HOME. The latest publicity scheme for N.Z. butter at Home is one whereby all the establishments of a wellknown catering firm in London,
where three million people attend every week will feature New Zealand butter and cheese on the menus, which will specify New Zealand products only and every pat of butter sold will be clearly stamped with the words New Zealand. This is propaganda of an essentially practical nature and is bound to bring results. When this year’s programme has been completed the Dairy Produce Board will have spent £55.000 within the space of three years in furthering the interests of New Zealand dairy produce. Results have more than justified the expenditure lor, however excellent a product may be, it is necessary to eiEiphasise t* n s potential consumers, a condition ol modern trading that is certainly not lest sight of by New Zealand’s competitors.: -
