WOODVILLE

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The closing ceremony at the Woodville Distirct High School took place on Wednesday afternoon, when scholars were assembled for the presentation of proficiency and attendance certificates. The chairman, Mr Turnbull, congratulated the pupils of Standard VI on their good work and also Miss Ponsonby for the splendid results of the proficiency examination. The Mayor, Mr Horne, also addressed the gathering and regretted that the dux medals won by Dorothy Dowd and Maurice Baker were not ready for presentation that day. Opportunity was taken to present Miss Ponsonby, who has been appointed to a position in Blenheim, with a solid leather suit case and a hand mirror. Mr Hewlett, the headmaster, and Mr Turnbull spoke of the departure! of Miss Ponsonby, both eulogising her capabilities as a teacher and her services to the school. Miss Ponsonby suitably replied and the ceremony concluded with the exchange of seasonal greetings and cheers for the' staff and pupils. Prior to her departure, Miss Ponsonby had been the guest of honour at several delightful functions. On a bridge and dancing party was held at the residence of Airs P. Ackland, and at the weekend a dinner party at Mrs G. B. D’Atli's residence, while on Monday evening a delightful progressive bridge party at Mrs Sheen’s was staged.
