The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1928. WOOD SALES.
It seems desirable that there should be a change in the manner of issuing reports at the close oi a wool sale, says the Wanganui Herald. At present the brokers meet and fix the official range of prices, and this they do after the sale of a sufficient quantity of wool and a sufficient variety of the staple to admit of a fail- view being taken of the position. The official range of prices is taken by everyone os correct, and it forms a very valuable record. When it comes to a report of the sale itself then one lias to read through six nr seven reports of individual firms to get some idea of the trend of tne market. The report would be much more valuable, at all events considarbly more authoritative, if the brokers would meet and frame a report just as they do the official range of prices. This would be considerably more satisfactory’ to all concerned, and would be received by the public as a reliable report, because it would embody the collated information that several firms possess and would consist of the considered opinion of the several selling brokers. As it is, the newspapers are called upon to publish six or more reports of varying length but all containing more or less, the same information.
