NGATURI SCHOOL

PRAISE FOR THE TEACHER. Breaking-up day at the Ngaturi school was attended by a large gathering of parents and residents bent on giving the children an enjoyable afternoon. The weather being favourable tennis was indulged in by adults and scholars alike. Needless to state, the lollie and nut scrambles were as popular as ever. Before the distribution of the prizes the chairman* of the school committee (Mr James Dick) addressed th e gathering on the duty of the committee and parents to assist the teacher, Miss Bruhn, to carry out her duties. He remarked on the fact that the whole of standard 6 had obtained their proficiency certificates which spoke volumes for the capabilities of the teacher. The school gardens and grounds also were kept in splendid order. Mr H. Cotter, as a committeeman, also made a flattering speech and spoke of the good work done by Miss Bruhn and the excellent results attained. The chairman then gave out the prizes and certificates.

Passes were obtained as follows: Std. 6, George Cotter, Arthur Dick, Maetrave Chisnlal, Nancy Nicholls, Joan Nicholls and Mirian Piercey; Std. 5, Elsie Ammundsen; Std. 4, Douglass Chisnall, Laura Cotter, May Dick, Daisy Dick, Helen Heckler, Rosy Piercv; Std. 3, Malcolm Chisnall, William Heckler; St. 2, Frank Ammundsen; Std. 1, Donald Dick ; Primer 4, Joyce Fairhurst. Special prizes for neat work, presented by the teacher, were won as follows: St. 6, Mirian Piercy; Std. 5, Elsie Ammundsen. Out of a total of eighteen, 14 children obtained attendance certificates. They were: George Cotter, Arthur Dick, Nancy Nicholls, Joan Nicholls, Mirian Piercy, Elsie Ammundsen, Douglas Chisnall, Laura Cotter, May Dick, Daisy Dick, Helen Heckler, Roy Piercy, William Heckler and Donald Dick.
