FAIR AND ENTERTAINMENT
The Pahiatua Women’s Institute is proving itself a real live body, and has set itself the task of augmenting the funds of two very worthy local institutions, the Plunket Society and the Municipal Brass Band. To this end, a grand fair and entertainment has been organised which will he held in the Foresters’ Hall on Tuesday next (November 27tli). There will be stalls t 0 tempt everybody, laden with cakes, sweets, produce, novelties of all sorts, a jumble stall with articles old and new. Morning and afternoon tea and ices will be served in the hall for a modest sum. A feature of €he afternoon, will be an art gallery, of a humorous character, and a number of competitions have been arranged. Air Chester M. Burt has generously donated a gramophone for one of the competitions and further prizes consist of iced cakes suitable for the Christmas season. In the evening a grand entertainment will be provided by “Strolling Gipsies,” who will give song and story; several tableaux will be staged, and the whole will wind up with a one-act play by leading local amateurs. The fair will open at 11 a.m., and the official opening will take place at 2 p.m. No charge will be made for admission in the morning and afternoon ; there will be a small charge of 6d fqr the evening session. The band will play a short programme of music early in the evening. The public can show their appreciation of the effort by attending in large numbers.
