The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1928. THE SWIMMING CLUB.
The recent spell of warm we."thei has directed attention to the opening of th© swimming season, and it is not surprising to learn that a number of youths lone been tempted to frequent the river and perhaps take unnecessary risks. The swimming club, which lias been kept in existence for the post 17 years largely through the enthusiasm of certain supporters, will ‘bo holding its annual meeting shortly, when the officers will be able to report upon the improvements already effected or about to bo effected at the baths. The Borongli Council is to he complimented upon the assistance given the club in making these improvements possible. The large number of adults and young people who use the baths will appreciate th© extra dressing accommodation. The scheme of improvements demonstrate what can be achieved by
careful planning and a. little energy and initiative. The entire cost of running municipal swimming baths is borne in a number of towns by the Borough Council, but in Pahiatu.a the Council have been relieved of a great deal of the upkeep. The Council, however, has always given its sympathetic co-operation when approached in the light spirit. There is every indication that with the improvements local swimmers should have a particularly successful and enjoyable season. Fresh records in the way of public, patronage wall probably be established when the big carnieals are held.
