WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MONTHLY MEETING. There were thirty-eight members present yesterday afternoon in St. Peter’s Anglican schoolroom at the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua branch of the Women’s Institute, Airs J. D. C. Crewe presiding. Letters were read from Mrs Harrison, secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Federation Handicraft Committee, stating that classes would be held in Pahiatua starting' on September 3rd for one week only, under the supervision of Air and Airs Goldsmith, of the Napier Technical College. Pongaroa members asked the Pahiatua branch to send an exhibition of work to their bulb show in September 19th, and it was decided thatthe request be acceded to. The Rev. G. W. Fenwick, president 0 f St. Peter’s Bulb Show, wrote asking members to alter the date of their next institute meeting, as thelm lb show clashed with it. Members expressed themselves as being very pleased to fall in with the suggestion, and the next meeting was fixed for September 25th.
Mrs YV. Harrison showed an original idea for making wool rugs, which is much quicker than the usual method, while Mesdames Bumbry and C. YValker, of Mangatainoka, gave interesting demonstrations on silk lamp shades. The hostesses were Mesdames G. Saxton and S. K Siddells. Two violin solos from Mrs Cotter and a similar number of songs from Mrs I. Boyens were greatly appreciated. Thepresident earnestly thanked the demonstrators, hostesses, and musicians.
A very pleasant afternoon closed with a musical parcel competition which was won by Airs Y’ile.
