VALUE OF RADIUM ALSO LEAD TREATMENT. (Received 10.20 a.m.) United Presis Assn—By Electric •Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, July 19. Cancers of thie breast, mouth, throat and tongue engaged the attention of the Cancer Conference. American and British contributors dealing generally with tli© subject. They unanimously concurred in the value of radium for treatment of breast cancer in preference to operation, except in most extreme cases. Tlie speakers differed largely from Professor Blair Bell, of Liverpool University, who suggested the possible conquest of cancer by lead treatment. He said he treated hundreds by inject [mis of load salts and the results justified his optimism. It had long been known that lead arrested the growth generally, but although definite conclusions were not reached. it appeared possible that the action of lead with regard to cancer was both lopal and constitutional. Gaspnri (Frankfort) svlpported Bell, but Simpson (New York) disagreed. In a summary of answers.. numerous American medical men did not confirm Bell’s contentions.—Australian Press Association.
