DAIRY CONTROL
FIGHT OVER MARKETING. Electric 'Telegraph —Press Association WELLINGTON July 13 Who will win the- final round in the fight over methods of marketing New Zealand dairy produce? Mr .1. R. Hamilton (Awarual committed himself to a prophecy in the House, despite unfriendly interruptions from a- fellow member -of his party, Mr J. A. Nash (Palmerston North) who strongly advocates free marketing. Mr Hamilton asked what was the result of free marketing for some of the New Zealand cheese- factories this season. They hod sold to merchants, and were- now discovering that factories which had consigned to London were- getting £lO ner ton more for their cheese. People- were saying that there should be less Government in business, continued Mr Hamilton, -but what happened among the manure manufacturers in the- way of raising prices against- the farmer ? De-spite these lessons, some peonle repeated that there should be no interference. They wanted freedom tear the merchant to exploit flic farmers, so that they could make- thousands of pounds out of dairy suppliers. “Propaganda was .able- to- beat u,s in the first round,” continued Mr Hamilton, “hut there may he a, few more rounds, and the probability is that the farmers l will be better trained than the- merchants next time, because they have "k chance- t-o- work up their muscles so that in the., la-sT rc-und they will get in the punch which means success.” Mr Nash (Palmerston North). “The Dairy Board lost every round.” Afi- Hamilton. “We- know what they had against them.”
