MAINTENANCE CASE
SEPARATION ORDER GRANTED. In the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton a fortnight ago. says the Age, Mary Quin, of Masterton, proceeded against her husband, James Thomas Quin, of Auckland, retired railway officer, for having failed to provide her with adequate mwintenanee. After hearing the evidence of both parties, the magistrate agreed to make an order against defendant, and suggested tliat counsel. Mr T. Jordan, for plaintiff-, and Mr Perry for defendant, might come to some agreement on the amount. • This counsel failed to do, so the magistrate intimated that he would make the order himself and announce his decision later. On Saturday morning Mr Free gave his decision. His Worship said that the wife had a private income, and the husband had a larger income. He had decided to place the amount of the two incomes together and arrange an older so that the husband and wife have an equal share. To do this would necessitate the husband paying 31s per week from liis income, to supplement the wife’s income. He therefore ordered the husband to pay 31s per week to his wife for future maintenance, and £2O for past maintenance. Solicitor’s costs, £3 3s, were allowed against defendant. The magistrate also granted a separation order upon the application of Mrs Quin’s solicitor.
