CHINESE TRAGEDY
500 DROWNED CAPSIZE OF FERRY. (Received 10.30 a.m.) Electric Telegraph—l-ress Association SHANGHAI, June 14. Five hundred Chinese were drowned at Swatow, a southern seaport, when a ferry was crossing the harbour. It capsized owing to the passengers crowding to one side as the ferry swung in a strong tide to recover a small package dropped overhoard.
The majority of the bodies were recovered.
