AMATEUR ATHLETICS
WAIRAItAPA DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS. The first annual Wairarapa SubCentre championships were held at Carterton under the control of the Carterton Athletic Club officials, asby members of the sub-cen-tre. The weather was most unfavourable, a drizzling rain falling intermittently, while a stiff wind severely hampered the competitors in most events. The rain also affected the attendance which was under six hundred, and tlibse promoting the fixture can consider themselves fortunate that the grc«s proceeds, amounting to £23, were just sufficient to cover expenses. A. J. Morgan (Pahiatua) was placed second in throwing the hammer and throwing the disc, third in putting the shot, second in throwing the javelin. One mile: R. A. Rose (Ms.) 1; I. Hart (Cn.) 2; G. Kempton (Cn.) 3. Won by eight yards. Time smin 18 sec. As Rose was not competing for the championship the title goes to Hart. Three miles R. A. Rose (Ms.) and H. Henderson (Ms.), dead heat, 1 ; L. A. Keats (Ms.) 3. As Rosg was not competing for the championship, the title goes to Henderson. Time ISmin 2 3-osec.
