The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 1927. AMBULANCE WANTED.
It appears that- after all no provision has been made by the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board fo: the purchase of an ambulance for this district. Although the levies made on local (bodies aro very heavy the cost of a proper ambulance is said to bo beyond the resources of the Board so far as Pahiatna is concerned. Many years ago when accidents were fairly numerous, a horsedrawn vehicle was used for the conveyance of the dead, dying and v'ounded. The roads wore rough and not infrequently only the strongest patient survived the journey. Of recent years, an obsolete motor car has been utilised, and private cars have also been brought into requisition. This is, to say the least, a \ cry undesirable state of affairs, and quite unworthy of the extensive area served by our popular public hospital. The Board should certainly give the needs of the institution the most favourable consideration. It has been suggested that a suitable motor vehicl •* could be purchased, and could (be fitted up as a comfortable ambulance, fhe Board contributing a pc:tion of the cost and the residents subscribing the remaining amount.
