MR YEOMAN RETURNED. Through the retirement of Mr W. E. M. Lees, a vacancy was creat®«l for the office of councillor for tlie Pongaroa riding of the county of Akitio. There were three contestants, and the poll took place yesterday. resulting a-s follows: Yeoman, Thomas Arthur 7 2 Smith, Philbrick Yalnntine 38 Sorensen, Jens John 1 Informal 3 Total 114 Air Yeoman had a clean-cnt win, polling 72 votes out of a total of 114. and securing the lead over Mr Smith by the wide margin of 34 votes. Originally there were four cai*didates but Ah s. F. Herbert withdrew. Air Sorensen endeavoured to do likewise at the last minute, but was too late, and his name had to go to the poll.
