A general strike and a boycott of all foreign goods in the entire Yangteze lias commenced, and the situation is rapidly becoming glare Ail Japanese are evacuating Yangtszc Valley. Tlie warships of the iuteinational asiatic fleets are rushing to important ports, and a large fleet is concentrating at Hankow, \\]iere tlie Japanese admiral has sworn his word of honour t© prevent Chinese trespassing in the Japanese concession. Ho promises to maintain the dignity ot tlie Imperial Japanese navy. The present strength of the Japanese landing party at Hankow is 300, and it is being hurriedly reinforced. The cruiser Tentyn is en route. A wireless from Nanking says that the anti-foreign feeling is still evident. Foreign houses are being looted. A northern aeroplane dropped two bombs at Pukow and three ir Nanking city. AMERICA N JOUR N A LI.STS ARRESTED. PEKIN. April 5. The Chinese police arrested Wilbur Burton and Airs Mildred Mitchell, American news writers, on c barges of being propagandists for the Nationalist Government tending to overthrow the constituted authorities and t<-> incite the Pekin public to disorder. Tlie alleged propagandists are guarded at an hotel by the Chinese polio® pending tlieir being handed over to the United States’ authorities. Both prisoners were formerly employed on Shanghai newspapers. FRENCH ACTION LIKELY. (Received 9.15 a.nt.) PARIS, April 6. The Echo de Paris states that Cabinet is considering tlie despatch tr> Shanghai of another cruiser < nd 600 troops.
