FOR CHRISTMAS
THINGS CHILDREN CAN MAKE. (Specially written for the Pahiatua Herald). Cream Dates: Take a box of dates and remove the stones,, put in a fiilhig made of icing sugar and butter and tie up in pretty paper. Lemon Squash: 2 cups sugar, 2,f cups boiling water, teaspoon citric, dessertspoon essence lemon. Pour boiling water on to sugar, add citric acid. When cold, add essence. Cocoanut Tee: 2 breakfast cups ■sugar, 1 breakfast cup cocoanut, 1 cup milk. Boil for 5 minutes, then heat till nearly cold. Colour half with cochineal. Present for a little girl : Cover a cardboard box with cretonne, and fill with clothes for the doll. For Mother: Cut two squares from a sugar hag and crochet the edge with blight wool, add two loops, and you have two useful oven cloths. If you can get ferns to grow in pots or 1 decorated tins those are always liked, especially by city friend*. A roll of straw plait can be made into a pretty little bonnet for a baby, or lor making dolls’ bonnets, trimmed with oddments of silk or flowers, and make ni.e gifts for little girls.
