Mrs Godfrey Taylor left on Thursday for Mount Spencer, Waipukurau, where she will be the guest of her daughter-in-law, Mrs J. G. Taylor. Mrs Capp, of Palmerston North, arrived here last Saturday and is the guest of Mrs W. O. D. Ryall, Main Street. Mrs Percy Hill has been a visitor to Wellington during this week. Mrs F. W. Bevin leaves on Monday for a fortnight’s holiday at New Plymouth, where she will be the guest of her sister, Mrs F. B. Mabin.
Mrs E. L. Harvey, of Mangatainoka, is at present confined to her house, owing to receiving an injury to her leg. Mrs W. T. Gilbert, of Manganiutu, has this week been on a visit to the Bay of Plenty. A large gathering of. ladies assembled at the residence of Mrs W. T. Boyd, Wakeman Street, on Thursday afternoon to bid .farewell to Mrs H. J. Fames and Miss Marjorie Fames, who are shortly leaving to take up their residence in Napier. The hostesses were Mesdames J. D. C Orewe, P. Tulloch, W. T. Boyd, and R. T. Adams who provided a most enjoyable afternoon’s entertainment. An amusing “Bird” competition was won by Mrs W. Ryall, who received as a prize a pretty cup and saucer. The rendering of vocal solos by Mesdames L. T. Herbert and C. F. Holdaway w r ere much appreciated, whilst Miss Heinus delighted the gathering with a pianoforte solo. At an opportune moment Mrs J. D. C. Crewe, on behalf of the many friends of the guests of honour presented Mrs Fames with a handsome leather Attache Case, and Miss Marjorie Fames with a Doulton plate, at the same time speaking with regret of their departure Mrs Eames had been a resident of Pahiatua foi* over thirty years, and, during that time, had made many friends. She. had rendered valuable assistance on Patriotic Committees during the war, and in other public affairs. Mrs Crewe also took the opportunity of welcoming the newcomers to Pahiatua and regretted the necessity of bidding farewell to any old residents. She concluded by wishing Mrs and Mi ss Fames the best of luck in their new sphere and “God-.s,peed.” Musical honours were then accorded, tlie accompanist being Mrs I. M. Graham.
