EXCITING INCIDENT

THREE MEN HAVE NARROW ESCAPE. Electric Telegraph—-Press Association DARGAVILLE, This Day. An exciting incident took place at the Pukeln.ua public works on Wednesday evening, when three men had a narrow escape from losing their lives. Railway work is at present in progress on this section of the line, and an engine; and trucks are in use for conveying metal along the spillway from barges an the river close by. On Wednesday, the engine and a, truck of metal got out of hand, toppled over the end of the spillway, raid fell on to the launch and the barge below, sinking them both, and eventually going to the bottom, <»' the river itself. The driver of the engine, a man named Slmw, managed to get clear of the engine as it reached .the water, and two men. Eran.sen and Hansen on the launch also managed to get clear, all reaching shore safely without injury. The gang is now engaged in salvage operations.
