WAR ON THE CANTONESE

(Received 11.40 a.in.) September 9. It is reported that SuiK’lia.uanfang, who is the military overlord otf five important provinces, including Shanghai, declared war on the Cantonese, and is sending an army of 200,000 to check the advance in the Yangtse Valley.
This means a final effort 1o prevent the advance of the red army towards Shanghai. LONDON. September 9. The Daily News says that the Yangtse patrol forms a considerable section of the British fleet in Clijifa. It consists of fifteen gunboats, six armed river steamers, and 1001) officers and men.
Nine of the largest gunboats belong to the insect class.
