(Spec-i al —Par 1 iamen ta ry Reporter *. WELLINGTON, Last Night With the \ddress-in-Reply debate, confined to Reform and Labour members, the debate has lagged. It was continued in the House to-day, hut is exiiected to reach the division stage on Mr Holland’s amendment on Thursday evening. Fusion was touched on by revel al speakers to-day, including Mr l.ysnar, who said he had advocated it for three sessions. To Be effective. it must he sound ana complete, with a policy which would appeal to electors whose wishes must he respected. The difficulties of fusion must »>e overcome in the country s interests. Mr Bartraiu threw ridicule on the proposal from the Labour benches, remarking he hacl seen that the ding of the parties was off- Labour was sorrowful, because the partiew had been smooging for years (laughter) and the Prime Minister was a lovely bride, while Mr Wilford made a beautiful lover. Sir M. Pomare turned the tables by describing Mr Bertram as th wooer of Maori voters, with an impracticable land policy. They had no clear policy on Maori lands and only undertook to set up a Commission about it if they got into power.
