JOB CONTROL TO CEASE AUSTRALIAN AGREEMENT. Electric Telegraph—Press Association SYDNEY. July 6. The marine transport group of unions, the Federal representatives of all the unions interested in the shi|>ping dispute being present, met today in an effort to bring about a .settlement, and reached an agreement In all probability by Wednesday the whole of the shipping dispute will lie settled. A memorandum of agreement has been drawn up, chiefly through the agency of Mr Lang, the Premier, and signed by the Commonwealth Shipping Board and the Unions, although the Inter-State Steamship Owners’ Association has not signed. The agreement pledges the donatories’ guarantee to tho fulfilment of the conditions of employment as contained in the Seamen’s Award in operation on June 4th articles, under which members ol’ last, to be attached to the ship's the Seamen's Union sign on. It is further agreed not to countenance any action of members of the said union that Is calculated to either delay or hold up the sailing of any shin during the currency of the ship’s articles Should the Seamen’s Union flout the agreement and persist ill preventing the sailing of ships or exervise “job control.” the Transport group promised to bring pressure to bear on the union to observe the conditions of the agreement. If the union persisted in its attitude, it would be isolated from the group. In the event of these measures being unsuccessful, the Trans]>ort Group agreed that it would not oppose any measures affecting the manning of ships to permit their continued running. The Australian Shipping Board tin. dertook to endorse the ships’ articles and attach thereto the wages and conditions of employment under which the seamen were employed prior to the cancellation of their award. These conditions are to prevail during the currency of the ships’ articles.
