A BUSY STATION
STOCK AND DAIRY PRODUCE BIG CONSIGNMENTS OF WOOL. During the last three weeks traffic at the Pahiatua railway station ha 9 been brisk.. The consignments inducted 2000 bales of wool railed to Wellington. Five to six trucks of butter and cheese are being railed weekly to the freezing company’s stores. A large supply of cheese crates and butter boxes are also being forwarded to Mauriceville, Hukamli, and Mangamaire. FAT LAMBS.
Fat lambs are now coming forward daily in increasing numbers, being railed to Wanganui, Petone, Kakariki and Imlay works. A large number of these are brought in by. motor lorry from the Pongaroa district. This new method of handling is a decided improvement, as much time is saved in getting lambs to market.
A consignment was loaded 18 miles out at 11 a.m., loaded into the trucks at 2 p.m., and forwarded by the three o’clock train, arc riving at the Wangafui works the same afternoon.
FULL SUPPLY OF WAGGONS. There is also a new unloading device erected by the railway authorities at the station, and in the event orf trucks not being available on the arrival of motor lorries, the lambs are unloaded .from both doors of' the lorries into an adjustable, race, which leads into the sheep pens, but up to the present motor lorry owners have had no occasion to use it, as. a full supply of 'wagons and tarpaulins for all kinds of traffic has been fully maintained by the local stationmaster (Mr W. Ridgley!. A FINE CONSIGNMENT.
On Monday a very fine consignment of 41 trucks of sheep (approximately 30001 were trucked at the Pahiatua railway station and sent forward by a special train leaving at 8.15 a.m. for Taumartmui.
