NOTES FROM EKETAHUNA.
AVORK ON THE NEWMAN BRIDGE. (From Our Travelling Reporter). EKETAHUXA. This Day. The contractors of the Newman bridge are well up to contract time and within a couple of 1 days will have the whole bridge concreted from end to end. They expect to allow motor and other traffic by the first week of April. This will prove a great boon to the travelling public as in some eases they have liad to travel from 10 to 12 miles further to get to Eketahuna or else take what is known 3s “the clav road,” which, was only negotiable fit d O', weather, or the iav&r with the chailce of getting delayed by the depth of the stream. Tlie annual sports meeting was held yesterday and was well attended. Something over £25 was taken at the gates. the business people donated various valuable trophies. The new buildings which are being erected for tlie municipality are now showing signs of completion and will be a great acquisition to the town. On this section, many years ago, stood the first licensing house in the district. But when No License was carried it was turned into a boarding establishment. Later, the estah'ishment was destroyed by fire. Tlie pastures in tlie vicinity of Eketahuna are looking very dry and rain without wind would be very much appreciated by tin* farmers who will have very few winter crops if the winds continue.
