ILLEGAL FISHING.

BY DALEFIELD RESIDENTS A BATCH OF FINES. At the Featherston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, William Neilsen, Chas. Saver, James A. Ordish and Harold E. Ordish were charged with, that on September 13 at Martinborough they were found in possession of trout during the period appointed cv close season; (2) with fishing for trout with an unsportsmanlike device; and (3) with fishing for trout without a license. A considerable amount of evidence was taken. His Worship said there was no question that the first charge had been proved asgainst the four defendants. Sayer went to the lake to fish with a net in which he had an interest. He knew the party was catching trout, and was aware that some were in liis. ©air. The use of a net was really part of the same offence. As to fishing without a license, the party went to catch deep sea fish, hut as none came to their net they took advantage of tine trout. There was no suggestion that they were old hands at poaching. Trout oanne their way rind they yielded to the temptation. On the first charge they would be convicted and each fined £5 and costs £2 Is 9d. The second charge would he dismissed. On the third charge N'eilsen and Ordish (21 would he convicted and ordered to pay court costs.
