INQUEST OPENED. I’ 1 Electric Telegraph—Press Association l Wellington, December 1. i Tlie inquest opened to-day before Mr t. K. Hunt, S.M., regarding the victims Edward Alfred Foreman and Jean Foreman (his wife) —of the Abel • Smith Street tragedy on Tuesday ; afternoon ? when the bodies of the man and his wife were found in the garden of a vacant house, the Hr- ; cuinstances pointing tb murder and suicide.. Evidence was given by Elsie Marion Pews, sister of Mrs Foreman, who said sire and her sister came to Zealand eleven months ago. They had no friends or relatives in the Dominion. Tilley worked iin hotels, find then made the acquaintance of men like Joreman. and Andenson, a man undergoing a. term of imprisonment. Foreman was intensely jealous of his wife without cause. She said lie made allegations of misconduct which led to a separation, and after that he haunted his wife, meeting her going to and coming from work, and shadowed her at night. "Witness was not surprised at anything that happened as ishe thought Foreman was mad. 'llie Magistrate (Mr Hunt) put in a letter addressed to him by Foreman, making allegations against bis wife of misconduct with two men, and giving reasons for taking drastic steps. The letter said: '‘l married her full of hope, Hushed with happiness, and lived on from day to day in hopes of her returning. All is blank; there is nothing to live for, and no interest in life. My castle lias fallen ; the 1 future is work, eat, and! sleep, a life of endless misery, and then die. Mr Hunt, this is not a ease of insanity, | or even temporary insanity, for lam j as calm to-day as at any time of my 1 life, and I have told my wife, urging c a destruction, and all I get is isar- > tcasm. I shall make one final ap- I peal.” The appeal made on Sunday v morning failed, a.nd Foreman wrote a ° postscript on Monday night, saying he had told his wife her life was for- ° Feited and she would be sorrv too ' Tlie inquest was adjourned till Monday. t , ■a i..—i —■
