The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING. FRIDAY. DECEMBER 2, 1921. RAILWAY “CUT.”
It is freely rumoured that in the threatened “cut” in the railway service, which is expected to come into force in the New Year, this district will lose another train. It is stated that the train which now leaves. here at 12.1.3 p.m. on three days a week for Woodvilie is to he cut out altogether. Persons in Kketahuna and otlier places wanting to do business with Painatua. will have to leave home early in t lie noming, or travel to i station where the express is timed to stop. The midday train, stopping where required is a convenient- means ot travelling to and from the’ wayside stations- lr is also surmised that the Wairarapa train connecting with the WellingtonXapier express, and leaving Woodville at 2.23 p.m. three days a week is to be cancelled. If these trains arc of value to the residents of this district it behoves the people to consider the matter, and it thought advisable, to ask the public bodies to take steps to see that the Wairarapa train service is not made to sutler from the c fleets ot the retrenchment policy more than other districts. The railage of cream must be considered. In some places the factories are cutting out the motor conveyances for collecting suppliers’ rans, and are asking the dairymen to use the railway . Dairy factories, like all other business concerns, are compelled to study what is the most economical method of carrying oil at the present time. The railways have been constructed at the expense of the public, and every section must keep alive to their own interests, a’nd demand that they receive a fa.ir share «*t service.
