PAHIATUA COUNTY COUNCIL

The following is the County Overseer’s report for the past month:— COUNTY TEAMS. The County teams have been employed! in various parts of the county, principally on maintenance and repairs to washouts and other damage dime by tine late floods.. At Maxima three teams have been employed replacing metal that was swept off the roadts. Two have been employed in and around Ballance; one lias .been continually employed on maintenance work around Mangatainoka and the remaining team n't Makuri ha® carried out necessary repair work in and around Makuri. The total output of metal for the month has been 1058 J cubic yards of metal. The motor lorry has dons', very little during the month, but as the weather is now suitable, I hope to be in a position to keep her in constant- use from now on.

The teams at Maxima are now drawing to a close all the most urgent work in that locality. I would suggest that they move on to Knitawa at an early date to do necessary repairs, on the Tiraumea Valley and other roads around Kaitawa. The Ballance teams will be ready to shift on to Makairo about the end of the month to carry out work authorised in that district. RIDINGS. Mangahao: In this riding general surfaee work has been carried out on the Gorge and Hall Block roads. At Ballance the metalling of the factory i road has been completed; also the I road running from Ballance to the forest reserve. A little repairs are now necessary on Rule’s road and as the haulage is a verv considerable distance, I propose doing this work with the motor lorry. When this is completed all roads in this ruling will he in good condition Mangatainoka : Metal repairs have I been carried out on Barrell’s-’ Pallia-tua-Makuri, Pukemnku and the Main roads. Slips have boon cleared away on the Pahiatua-Makuri and Runwlinta roads. On the PahiatuaMnkuri road near Fisk’s old homestead n smal hlridge has gave way and is now only temporarily repaired. This will require to lie renewed in the near future.

Oil the Ridge road slips have be‘'n cleared away and general surfaee work carried out. Verv little has been done at. Mnkomako as no surfaceman has boon appointed for this length of roa d.

Tt will be. necessary to replace two culverts at an carlv date to kf'ep the road open for traffic. Kaitawa : In this riding metal repairs are necessary on the Tiraumea Valley and r JV Aupapni roads ami as the weather is now likely to be suitable for this work, T would roeomniernl that it be carried out. immediately. Pipes have been placed on the sites at the junction of the To

Aupapa a,ml ah Hunt’s bend and will be laid in position a® soon as possible. Tenders were called for works in this riding during the month, but as none were received, if the Council wants this work carried out, they will have to arrange for day labour. The Ridge road is now being attended to •and, with the exception of a few chains this road is ill good order.

* Makuri: Metal repairs have been carried out on tihe Gorge and’ Pongaroa hill roads. Ruts have been filled and slips removed on the Woocf-villiei-Aohanga road. It will' be necessary to have a portion, of the road between Moore’s and the boundary of this riding heavily patched before the winter sets in. To do this work it will be necessary to have other county teams sent out or arrange for teams to work along with the county teams stationed at Makuri.

Makairo: Slips have been removed from Sheffield's find Woodviftd A f*hanga rOads.
