PAHIATUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Pahia'tua County Council was held to-day. Present: Councillors Cornelius, (in the chair), and Hodgins, Mathews, Bis&ett, Bengsten, Bolton. Darlington, Effingham and Beech. CORRESPONDENCE. The Minister for Public Works, writing kith reference to the Makuri River Bridge said he had lqokt>d into the matter, and in view of the representations made was prepared to hand over to, the Council the plans prepared by the Department for the erection of the bridge and 'to make a subsidy of £SOO (£ for £) available for authorisation as soon as apxdied for. He also stated that owing to pressure of more urgent work 'the Department was unable, to undertake preparations of the plans of Tylee’s Ford Bridge.-. It vras decided to write away for the plans and subsidy. The Resident Engineer vvrdte acknowledging the Council's offer to contribute a further £SO towards the imjvrovement at Matheson’s corner, when the work lias been completed The acting-secretary pf the Manawafu Gorge Board of Control wrote stating that the Board expects to take over the absolute control of the road and upper bridge on April Ist next, and further dysired to convey its sincere thanks to the Council for its kindness in undertaking the maintenance of .the road up to the present and the. Board trusts that the Council can conveniently continue to carry on until the end of the year.—Received.
