Electric Telegraph—Press Association Copyright. (Australian-N.Z. Cable Association.) Pairis, January 11. The American Ambassador lias informed M. Levgues that the United States lias decided not to be, further represented on the Ambassadors’ Council; also to refrain from taking part in the next Supreme Council. America will continue to particij>ato in the Reparations Committee. “Le Matin” declared that the decision. was taken owing to the French demand that should be compelled to fulfil her pledges. M. Leygues, in the course of ail interview expressed his intention to secure fho execution of the Versailles Treaty. France would exact what was her due quietly, and with calm, unshakoable firmness, with justice to the former enemies and justice to herself. He realised that before the world could arise from the cinders of the great hre, all civilised nations must collaborate, andi France and ! Germany also. A semi-official Note points out that the American decision to quit the . Supreme Council is merely formal, as America has not participated since 1919, except in an observer’s capacity. Formal action, is necessary, in ! view of President Wilson’s retire- i ment, though German propagandists in America are suggesting that Amo- ■ rican sympathies are with Gcrmanv !
