TEACHERS GRAPHIC.
M ASTE rtITON RESOLUTIONS. Electric Telegraph—Press Association vMastiertoin June 12. At a meeting of tilne Mastortou brancOi of the Education Institute the fo'lowing resolutions were passed : “That this meeting concurs with the grading conference in reaffirming its confidence in the principle of the old grading scheme, and is therefore the more surprised that the enoe’s own amending proposals are so drastic ’• in character as to constitute a rejection, of the established system. Two cardinal, features of the proposed new scheme—the increase of the quota and the reduction of the marks for Scholastic attainment—this meeting is of opinion are both prejudicial to the success, of the. grading system and inimical to the welfare of the teaching profession and therefore of our primary school. It hopes that upon review the Department will revolt to the main lines of the old scheme, which lias now obtained wide accepta/iuce.
“That tliis branch of the N.Z.E.I. wishes emphatically to dissociate itself from t,he strictures passed upon the grading system by the Auckland teac hers, and to place on record its appreciation of the courageous and judicious eftarts —a.t last successful of the Assistant-Director to have the Auckland teachers graded) on a basis fair to the remaining teachers of tho Dominion.”
