MEAT TRUST MENACE
NECESSITY FOR COMBINATION
The Meat Trust menace was referred to in bis precedential address by Mr S. J. Am bury, at the annual meetiiig of the Auckland farmers freezing compajny. “Some produo- ■ ers,” he said, “will say that the business kno\\*a as the Meat Trust} have done us more good than harm, and I agree to that. But that is nob the whole truth. These firms are not looking to the immediate present for profit, as most farmers do, but they are -securing supplies -flu all meat countries of the worid and shave large interests in the distributing of the meat 'in Great Britan a,u other countries, and practically control the prices mi the London mlarket. The time may not be far d staint when producers In this country will view the matter to what they do.” Mr •!. E. Makglil, a director ot the company, said --there was undoubtedly a tendency on the part ot farmers tx> get a iittlo more offered for their stock by unfair competition. Unless the farmers helped the directors they could not do much to stem the tide. It was necessary for the producers to combine and do thevr best to guide tlie meat industry into the right channels.
